Not long ago I was in a well known electronics retailer and happened to notice they were selling home security systems. The systems were designed for the do-it-yourself installer. Talking with the sales clerk, it was clear that they knew little about them, and they expected the manufacturer to provide support.
Looking around further, I inquired whether they used these products to protect their own stores and was told they did not. I have to wonder, if it's not good enough for them, is it good enough for you or me?
Yes, it does cost a little more (not a lot) to have a security system professionally designed and installed, but you will know that you have the protection you need and that it is done right. Better yet, you won't have to fix any (costly) mistakes you make installing your own.
Many systems which are advertised and promoted as "free" are not free, in some cases you do not own the equipment, and in all cases these are the most inexpensive system that the person selling it can buy; you can be assured it is not a high end system. Often the company is not even located in your city, and when service is needed it is costly.
Security systems definitely have value and make your home or business safer and everyone has to decide what price point they are comfortable with. There are definitely advantages to better quality equipment, after all your safety depends on it!
