Does your security system still use dial-up?

Most home and business security systems are linked to a 24 hour alarm monitoring center where trained professionals take action when an alarm occurs. A lot of security systems sold in the last 30 years use a form of dial-up, where the security system calls a phone number and sends its signal into an alarm receiver, similar to the way a modem works.

Today, many homes no longer have a phone line, or are thinking of doing away with one. Fortunately modern security systems can now be monitored via a special cellular transmitter (think of it as a cell phone for your alarm system) or even by high speed internet; some are connected both ways for high security.

Burglars have no easy way to defeat an alarm system using cellular reporting. Another advantage is that reporting via internet or cell phone is much faster than dial-up (surprised?) typically taking only seconds to transmit the alarm. Some dial-up systems take between 30-45 seconds for the alarm signal to be sent.

The only advantage to reporting by dial-up is to the phone company; they appreciate your business! Call your local security provider today to see how cellular transmission makes your system more secure and eliminates the need for phone lines.
